An academy student is any Fullerton Union High School student who is enrolled in a Fine Arts course and wishes to pursue a three year pathway within the arts curriculum while in high school as outlined below.

How do I become an Academy Student?

Fill out the application form and return to the Academy of the Arts box located in the administration building. Applications will be reviewed for accuracy and completeness. Please represent yourself in your best light on the application form. That means write in blue or black ink, or type.

[All forms on this Academy website are in .pdf format, for which you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not yet have the reader, this button will take you a download site.]

What are the Academy membership requirements?

1.    Students must maintain a minimum semester letter grade of “B” in their Fine Arts classes. If a student’s quarter grade is less than “B”, then that student will be put on probation until they bring their semester grade up. Citizenship grades of either “S” or “O” must be maintained in all classes. Failure to meet these minimum requirements will result in the student losing a semester of Academy participation. (See #6 below)

2.    Students must complete a year or more of advance course study. (See advance course study chart below)

3.    Students will keep an up to date and intensive portfolio of their work. Faculty from each Fine Arts area will advise students of these specific requirements.

4.    Students will attend at least two (2) performance/exhibits each semester.

• One (1) must be off campus. This may be at other high schools, colleges, universities, professional theatres and stages, museums and galleries.
• One (1) must be on FUHS campus of Academy students. Choral concerts, instrumental concerts, plays, dance concerts, art or photography exhibits are examples of on campus performances/exhibits.
• Verification of attendance through a one page written review with a program or ticket stub attached is required. This report may be turned into the Academy of the Arts box located in the administration building.

5.    Students will provide a minimum of five (5) hours community service to their perspective Arts area per semester.

6.    Students will successfully complete all work required each semester in order to remain in active Academy status. An Academy graduate will have completed six (6) full semesters of work, two (2) of which must be in the senior year.

7.    Sophomore students will provide a show case of their individual work each semester. This may be in the form of a jury, peer review, display or other appropriate assessment method. Please see your area faculty for more details.

8.    Junior and Senior level students will provide a public showcase of their individual work each semester. This may be a recital, concert, gallery display, or to the appropriate method. Please see your area faculty for more details.
